AdSense for YouTube Setup: Link an Existing Account or Apply

Signing up for and linking AdSense for YouTube begins in YouTube Studio's Earn section. If you have an existing AdSense account, select the Google account that accesses it; if not, follow the new application flow guided by the Studio. After connecting, return to the Studio to check both the completion status and the channel review steps.

Distinguish between your channel and payment account before starting

First, make sure that the channel you are applying for in YouTube Studio is correct. If you use multiple channels or Google accounts, record the channel name and URL shown in your profile. The account you log into for the channel may differ from the account you log into for AdSense. For example, if you manage the channel with account A but use an existing blog AdSense account B, you may need to access the channel with A but verify account B when selecting the payment account.

Do not judge solely by the account name; check the recipient and status of the existing AdSense account. If it is unclear whether you previously registered, check the AdSense notification emails in the email inbox you use and log in directly to the existing account to confirm. Do not proceed by borrowing someone else's account arbitrarily or by transferring ownership. Google's account settings and connection guide also explains issues with duplicate accounts and ownership.

Also confirm whether you meet the account application age requirements. If you do not meet the requirements, guidance is provided to use a parent's or guardian's adult account, and payments will be made to the approved adult account. Check the AdSense eligibility requirements that apply to your region for the applicable age. If you are not yet eligible to apply for YPP, prepare starting from the conditions displayed in the Studio, and do not create multiple payment accounts in advance.

If you have an existing AdSense account, connect it like this.

  1. Log in to YouTube Studio and go to the Earn section on the left. Double-check that this is the channel you want to apply for, and select Start in the AdSense enrollment steps for YouTube.
  2. When Google account re-authentication is requested, proceed with authentication of the Google account managing the channel. Distinguish between the authenticated account at this step and the AdSense account you will select later.
  3. When selecting the Google account to use for AdSense, choose the account that accesses the existing AdSense account. Do not automatically assume that the account currently logged into the browser is correct.
  4. Check the email at the top of the AdSense screen. If you have selected the wrong account, change it to use a different account before confirming the connection. After verifying the displayed channel information and recipient relationship, proceed to accept the connection.
  5. After returning to the Studio, check if the AdSense linking step is complete. If the channel review is in progress, wait for that step separately. Do not assume that all monetization features are active just because the connection is marked as complete.

The important choice in this procedure is not to create a new email, but to correctly identify an already approved payment account. If duplicate prompts appear, compare the existing account with the selected email instead of trying to create more accounts. You can modify the account selection before submission, but restrictions on changes may apply after the connection is completed.

If you do not have an AdSense account, apply for one from Studio.

New applications also start at the AdSense sign-up step shown in Studio's Earn section. Do not separately sign up for a website on the AdSense homepage and then try to fit it into YouTube. If you see a screen asking you to enter a separate website address in the YouTube application flow, you should first check which route you used to start the sign-up.

  1. Select 'Start' at the AdSense sign-up step in Studio and complete the requested Google account re-authentication.
  2. Choose the Google account that will manage the payment account going forward. Make sure you can access this account long-term and that it is connected to the actual recipient information.
  3. Enter the recipient and contact information requested on the screen with your actual information. Do not fill in temporary information for country and address as they will affect verification and payments later. Requirements may vary depending on account type and country, so read the on-screen instructions and review before submitting.
  4. After applying, return to Studio to check the submission or progress status. Check both the confirmation email and the Studio status, distinguishing between submission notification and completion of approval.

If you keep a personal record of the account and date you applied for, as well as the selected channel, it will help when making inquiries later. Do not post passwords, verification codes, or identification information on public posts or inquiry communities. Repeating applications for the same recipient with a different email due to delayed approval may make it difficult to determine the cause.

What should I check after applying?

Status or situation Criteria to judge the meaning Next check
Application received / in progress Submitted or being processed, which is different from approval completed Email of the selected account and the corresponding stage in the studio
AdSense connection completed Payment account connection stage completed Channel review, terms, individual monetization feature status
Request for additional information Actions required by the account remain Type of request and submission / review result
Connection completed but no deposit Conditions for the payment stage need to be checked separately Confirmed balance, verification, and payment hold of the YouTube payment account

According to Google's notice on changing connected accounts , the time required for approval of a new account may differ from the connection of an existing account. Usually, a new account takes a few days, but it can take 2–3 weeks. It may take up to 24 hours for already connected information to be reflected in the system. Do not read this as a fixed processing time or approval guarantee for all new applications. First, check if there are any additional requests and the current processing stage.

To resolve issues with duplicate accounts, incorrect accounts, or website URLs

duplicate account notice: Check accounts previously used on old blogs or other channels, and if you can access that account, review the connection path of the existing account. Changing the connected account and closing the AdSense account are separate tasks. Do not hastily close it before checking the unpaid balance and other sites/channels connected to the existing account.

If a different email is appearing: If the connection has not yet been confirmed, go back to the account selection step and choose the correct AdSense account. Make sure you are not repeatedly selecting only the account used for channel login authentication. If the connection has already been completed, check the change procedure and restrictions below.

If the website URL is being requested: Make sure you are not creating a new AdSense for YouTube account on the AdSense homepage. Do not proceed by entering a random site address if you do not have an actual blog, and return to the Studio signup path.

If the connection screen itself fails: First, check that the account and channel selection is correct, and consider trying again in an incognito window to reduce the influence of unnecessary other Google account sessions. Distinguish whether it is a browser problem or an account review problem, and record the error message along with the stage and time of occurrence. If an error remains, refer to the resolution method for that specific symptom in the previously connected official setup guide.

If the application stages are unclear, review AdSense for YouTube and YPP explained. After linking, use verification, bank setup and payment procedures to check the remaining payment requirements.

How do I change an account that has already been connected?

Channels approved for YPP membership can check the currently linked AdSense information in Studio's Earn section and select change . After re-authentication, select the account to connect and confirm the account and channel information at the top to accept the connection. Google also advises that connected accounts can be changed once every 32 days , so repeatedly changing accounts as a trial method is not appropriate.

Before making a change, record the current connection status and confirm whether the account to be connected is accessible. After the change, check the completion status in Studio and the payment account information again. Do not assume that connecting a new account and settling the remaining balance on the previous account are the same task; review the transaction and payment information for each account separately. Rather than unnecessarily terminating an account to revert an application, first determine if it is possible to change the account through the official procedure corresponding to the current status.
